Ultra! 2.1

10 reasons why Bristol City are better than Liverpool:

  1. City remain undefeated in all major European competitions. Contrast their record with Liverpool’s, who only last season suffered several humiliating defeats in Europe. Fancy losing to the French!
  2. On the 16th May 1977, League Champions Liverpool, who went on to win the European Cup, were on the wrong end of a 2-1 drubbing at Ashton Gate, Garland grabbing both City’s goals.
  3. Liverpool, despite winning most major competitions, have never lifted the Anglo-Scottish or the Freight Rover trophies. City have a proud and distinguished record in both competitions.
  4. ‘Goalkeeper’ Mike Hooper was only considered good enough to make one appearance in City Colours. An understudy to top Zimbabwean eccentric Bruce Grobbleaar at Anfield he has been pressed into action several times.
  5. When Liverpool bought from Arseanal they blew two million quid on Michael Thomas, who’s only scored 5 goals in 26 appearances (23%). Meanwhile, City paid less than a quarter of that amount for Andy God who, at 77%, has netted 13 times in 17 outings.
  6. In season 1954-55, City topped the Third Division South with a record 70 points, scoring 101 goals in the process. Liverpool, incredibly, have never come anywhere in the Third Division South.
  7. 7. City have never signed Nicky Tanner. Any pretensions Kenny Dalglish may have entertained as a shrewd judge of footballing talent were blown away by his eleventh-hour move for a player that both were prepared to off-load to Torquay. One can only assume that he really meant to buy Micky Tanner.
  8. Liverpool’s supporters are mainly ‘Scousers’ (a.k.a. Micky Mousers or Scallys) a race with numerous genetic defects frequently manifested in pick pocketing, theft and burglary. City’s following, however, derives from adult males born or reared in or around Bristol – an altogether lustier strain known as Cider heads, whose distinguishing characteristics are high intelligence, piercing wit and impossibly good looks.
  9. Liverpool’s prolific striker, Ian Rush, having finally scored against Manchester United, still cannot claim to have netted against City.
  10. Two of Liverpool’s most successful Managers, the multi-tournament winning Bill Shankley and Bob Paisley, both appeared for City as players, which is obviously where they learnt their trade, Ashton Gate being the ‘University’ of the Football World. Despite being quite successful in 3rd Division campaigns, Alex Raisbeck, the only Liverpool player ever to become City’s Manager, never won any major awards. Anfield, therefore, can be seen as providing only a ‘Polytechnic’ standard of education.
